The AGD House of Delegates adopted an official AGD policy on access to care on Sunday, July 20, 2008, during the annual meeting in Orlando. The AGD White Paper on Access to and Utilization of Oral Health Care Services provides a comprehensive picture of access to care, including a focus on oral health literacy, special needs, financial inequities, and uneven distributions of dentists and dental teams.
The policy also provides strong arguments against two-tiered systems of oral health care delivery that would provide inadequate care for the poor and further compromise their health and safety.
In contrast, the White Paper provides approximately 30 substantive and workable solutions to access to care that can be implemented by organizations, governmental entities, and communities of interest. Look for the AGD, including your constituent, to take action with state boards, legislators, dental organizations, the public, and other communities of interest in the upcoming months.
The full policy will be available online shortly.
