This Month’s GD: Chlorhexidine Agents as Cavity Disinfectants
In this month’s GD: General Discussion, Drs. Celik, Sirin, Ergucu, Turkun, and Ates compare the antimicrobial effect of cavity disinfectants containing chlorhexidine with other chlorhexidine agents (such as mouthrinses and antiseptics) to determine if applying these chlorhexidine agents to the dentin surface affected composite bond strength.

Raising Insurance Caps
The lifetime insurance cap may be raised to $10 million if the new Health Insurance Coverage Protection Act (HR 6528) is passed. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA-14) introduced the act, stating, “Increasing the minimum lifetime cap will result in a net savings for federal and state governments because individuals with high medical costs can maintain private health insurance.”

 

Concerns for Expanding Services

The Center for Studying Health System Change (HSC) recently released a new study which concludes: “Community efforts to meet the dental needs of low-income residents face an uphill battle because demand for services far exceeds available resources.” Check out some of the study’s other findings.
